Additional Work for Final Week

In the Physical Education folder in the shared area, you will find a PDF document called 'Sports Day Results 2015'. If you have completed all of your work from this half-term, I would like you to uses the Sports Day results to create a poster/infographic or presentation using whichever programme best suits your needs.

Monday, 6 July 2015

Work for Thursday 9th July

You should be nearing completion of your project where you have produced 4 pieces of work on a topic of your choice. If you have finished, you should design a poster for Sports Day. Some things you may wish to consider:
  • Date
  • Events
  • Times of Events
  • Details about your house
You can use any program you like, but why not try www.piktochart.com to make a really eye-catching poster? For more details and to see the actual Sports Day programme, CLICK HERE

Year 8: Promotional and Advertising Campaign

This term we will be working on a promotional and advertising campaign based on an idea of your choice, something we have covered in ICT this year or a current event/product (I'll give you more ideas later):

Here is what you need to produce over the next 6 weeks:

Mandatory:
  • Presentation (PowerPoint or Prezi)
  • Poster (use format of your choice but you may wish to try Piktochart )

Optional (choose 2 from the following):
  • PowToon
  • Radio Advert (Audacity)
  • Video (Movie Maker/Premier Pro/iMovie)
  • Animation
If you have enjoyed a particular aspect of ICT this year then you could base your project on that. You may wish to use a particular film/celebrity/video game/app etc as the basis of your project

If you are still struggling to think of an idea, you could use one of the following as a theme:
  • Music Festival(s)
  • The Rugby World Cup (starts in September and hosted by England)
  • A new governing body for Football (to take over from FIFA)
The theme of your project is not the most important thing. It is the quality of the 4 pieces of work that you produce over the next 6 weeks that count. You will be asked to present your campaign in the last week of term and show the class what you have done.

You can work in pairs or on your own. If you are working in pairs, you need to make sure that BOTH PEOPLE ARE WORKING. It would also be a good idea to save work in both of your documents so that the work can continue if one of you is absent.

The important thing is to take your time and make sure that the work you produce is of the highest quality. Remember you have 6 weeks to complete these tasks!

Finally, I am thinking of emailing your work at the end of the project to your parents to show them what you have done. Make sure it's good!

Once you have completed the Logo Review task, you should begin the 'Market Research' task that I presented to you at the start of the lesson. The PowerPoint presentation can be found by clicking on the link below:

Market Research Task

Once you have pasted your 3 designs onto your PowerPoint, you must complete some Market Research on your product. Here are some questions you may wish to consider:
  • Which is your favourite design?
  • Why?
  • How much would you pay for your favourite design?
  • Would you wear these as a fashion item or for sport?
Now you need to write 5 questions for your research (use mine or make some of your own). You must ask these questions to at least 5 members of the form (must be at least 1 boy and girl). You should make a note of their answers and then summarise the results on a final slide on your PowerPoint presentation.

Work for Today

You now have 4 lessons to complete your quiz. You should use images, line up cells and change the background; making it as visually appealing as possible.

For those who have already completed a lot of questions, you could add another IF formula which will allow you to accept multiple answers for a particular question and still be correct.

For example, if you had the Spurs badge as your image, but somebody typed 'Tottenham' it would say they were wrong. You can now change this using this formula as an example:

=IF(OR(A1="Spurs",A1="Tottenham"),"Correct","Wrong")

This could be useful in other ways too. For instance, if you have a celebrity quiz, now you can accept full names or surnames as a correct answer. Try to use this formula at some point in your quiz.

Year 7: Preparation for your Scratch Project

You have 2 lessons to complete as many of the word tutorials that are in the folder named below:

W:\Professional Studies\Professional Studies\ICT\KS3\2.Spring\Year 7 Spring 2 - Sequencing\Tutorials

Once you have completed each tutorial, you should save the scratch file in your ICT folder (in a new folder called 'Scratch').

Using the IF Formula in Excel

Have a go at the the quiz created by Miss Goodwin on excel by downloading the file on the link below:

HERE

Today, I'd like you to start making your own quiz on excel. This can be on music, pictures, movies, apps, footballers....anything really!

Watch the video below on how you can use the IF formula in excel to automatically tell the person whether they have got the question right or wrong:

Here is the formula I used in the video above:

=IF(A14="Gareth Bale","CORRECT","WRONG")

As you begin to build your quiz, it is really important to include conditional formatting to make it more visually appealing. You should also try to line up the images and cells beneath where you want the participant to add their answers.

Good luck!

Year 8: Using Formula on Excel Spreadsheets

I have completed the supermarket spreadsheet for you to use from Monday's lesson. You can download it here:

Supermarket Spreadsheet

I would like you to add formula to the spreadsheet to work out:

  • the best price per item
  • the average price per item
  • the total cost per supermarket
  • the cheapest/most expensive supermarket for those 6 items
Here are some useful formula for you:

=AVERAGE(write cells here)
=SUM(write cells here)
=MIN(write cells here)

You can watch the video of me completing the task below:

Also use some conditional formatting to help illustrate the cheapest options for all of your items.

Which supermarket is the cheapest?

Here are some further tips and tutorials:

http://www.gcflearnfree.org/excel2013/13

If you finish, you should start to design your own spreadsheet for items that you are interested in (clothes, music, games, footballers etc).

Your task for the next 4 lessons is to build your own database using Access. Ideas for your database could include:

  • Your favourite films, music, games
  • FIFA Ultimate Team Database
  • Countries of the World
  • Animals

Watch my demonstration carefully. The first 2 lessons will be about building a database. Next week we will be using the data to create 'forms'.

HELPFUL TIP No. 1: Think carefully about the fields you want to create for example, for 'Countries of the world' the fields I might create would be:

  • Name
  • Population
  • Continent
  • Flag
  • Neighbours
  • Capital City

HELPFUL TIP No. 2: When you create a new field, think carefully about the data that will be displayed. You must choose from text, attachments (if you want a picture), currency, date etc.

Stop-Motion Animation

Today you must create your own stop-motion animation using your phones. Even if you do not have the app, you can take the photos on your phone and then we can create an animation with the photos another time.

Tips:
  • work in pairs
  • one person holds the camera, the other moves the objects
  • keep the camera as still as possible
  • the more photos and smaller the movement, the more realistic your animations will look
  • be creative - use inanimate objects from your pencil case/bag
  • you have until 3:20 to create your animation
The animations below only took about 5 minutes to make (I was working with a partner for all of them):
